Stull Cemetery

Located in Rural Kansas, Stull Cemetery is one of the many “haunted graveyards” spread across the world. What makes this cemetery so different is the very way in which it is haunted. There is a core of something diabolical in this cemetery.

It is said that within the gates of Stull Cemetery is one of the very gateways to Hell itself!

Over the course of 100 years, stories of supernatural happenings have been linked to Stull. In an article written in 1974, appeared in the University of Kansas, and it stated that diabolical activities took place there. In the article, this cemetery was one of the locations that the devil himself appeared twice a year. Based on the legends collected by author Lisa Hefner Heitz, the devil appears on the last night of winter and the first night of spring. It is said that he comes to visit a witch buried there.

In one story related by two witnesses as they visited the cemetery on night, a strong wind began to blow out of nowhere. Becoming frightened, they ran back to the car they'd left outside the cemetery. They soon realized as they made it back to where they'd left the car, it had been moved to the other side of the highway, facing the opposite way it had been pointing when they'd parked it.

The town's true name, Deer Creek Community, remained so until 1899. But the name of the town was adopted as Stull, named after the first postmaster, Sylvester Stull. Ever since the 1850's, it has been claimed that the devil has appeared here at Stull. According to the legends, the original name of the town was Skull, and to cover up for the fact that the town was slated in black magic, the town's name was changed to Stull.

One of the legends of Stull claims that the bones of Satan's child lies in one of the graves of the cemetery. The child was born of Satan and a witch. The child was born extremely deformed and died shortly after childbirth. One of the stories also say that once, on a plane trip to an appearance in Colorado, the Pope asked to change course so that they wouldn't fly over the cemetery. It was considered unholy ground.

I saved for this last section my favorite story based on the Stull legend. In 1999, a crowd of news reporters and curious onlookers, who'd heard that the devil was to appear at midnight on Halloween night, were suddenly all kicked out by the authorities at 11:30pm and asked not to stay. Hmm. Sounds suspicious to me.

This is a very curious place.
